more shaving thoughts :)

I wanted to get out the door a little early this morning, so I used the electric razor. I was amazed to find that 5 minutes of shaving with a razor where the blades aren't even supposed to be touching my face gave me considerably more skin irritation than 20 minutes of dragging a razor blade over my face. Chalk up one more point for the double edge razor.

  1. Not to mention that traditional shaving is considerably more pleasant! :)

  2. Hah! you really ought to try an old fashioned razor with fresh warm lather! FWIW my favorite is a 50+ year old Rolls Razor. There are entire websites devoted to the art and practice of shaving.

  3. That's a crazy razor - I have a Merkur Progress. It's a new razor, but obviously fashioned after the double-edge razors that have been around since the early 1900's. I use a brush and soap/creme too, my favorite so far being Pre de Provence sage scented shaving cream. Good stuff :)

  4. I have an similar razor to the Merkur, belonged to one of my grandfathers. My dad still has a Rolls that he bought when he was in the USN back in the early 50's, still uses it to keep around his beard trimmed up, never has had to replace the blade. Another good site for the Rolls. I use the Proraso product line for the most part. I usually can buy it at Target. Yes I am a retro-grouch and proud of it!

  5. I've heard that Target carries Proraso, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find it at the couple of stores near us.

Maybe we should start the "slow shaving movement" :)

  6. Slow Shaving works for me! Otherwise I cut my face to ribbons. Have you seen the Fedora Lounge full of great stuff and resources.

  7. I haven't seen that - looks fun :) I got most of my shaving stuff at www.classicshaving.com or www.muehle-pinsel.de

I'll have to look through the Fedora Lounge some more, thanks for the link :)

  8. Update on Proraso...the Target stores around here have discontinued stocking it. And they wonder why we shop online *rolleyes*

  9. That's sad to hear :( I was excited that a store like Target would carry a decent non-aerosol-can shaving cream.
